Osteopathy

It’s quite common to say that there is multiple medical approaches, depending on the different clinical minds and treatment management.

Some focuses on finding the disease to eradicate it.

Some focus on seeking health.

Osteopathy has the aim to achieve those as well as one important other thing: maintaining health.

The manual practitioner approaches any kind of symptom by looking for its origin. Every single physical pain is predisposed by physical factors we often do not even suspect.

An osteopath is a specialist of these physical dysfunctions, observing the musculoskeletal system in its totality: the posture, the joints shape, their ranges of movement both actively and passively, the state of the different body tissues...

Postural asymmetries, mechanical imbalances, abnormal tissue tonicity, weaknesses/strength, restrictions are analysed for example along with the nature of the symptoms and the way they’re influenced.

An Osteopath is what we would call a holistic medical practitioner, someone who consider the body as a whole through all its systems.

Hence the interest of analysing a patient’s systemic health for any underlying condition or factor that could be involved and should be considered in the clinical management. Likewise, the neurological, lymphatic, cardiovascular and respiratory systems are also assessed.

This holistic approach allows the practitioner to determine the maintaining factors of someone’s symptoms, in order to suppress the pain and the dysfunction, as well as the predisposing factor. Those are the causes of dysfunctions, the reason that lead us to injuries.

If those maintaining and predisposing factors are taken care of, the body ends up compensating for that dysfunction that hasn’t been treated. As a consequence, our symptoms become chronic. We live with the pain, and the dysfunctions can become permanent.

Etienne is an Osteopath from France. Based in London from 2014 until 2018, he graduated from the British School of Osteopathy in the United Kingdom.

He accumulated wide experience while in the UK through private clinics as well as sport, pediatric clinics and public hospitals. A multi-educational process with internships in France allowed him to integrate a certain diversity in his treatment approaches, adapting specifically to the patient’s needs.

The realignment of structure and function of the muskulo-skeletal system is very important for Etienne, constantly aiming to cure the symptomatic origin. While treating dysfunctions, he is also focused on enhancing posture adaptation and body mechanics in adults or teenagers either to optimize recovery or prevent potential impairments and conditions.

Etienne is fluent in English and French.
